Force Crag Mine, located in the Coledale Valley near Keswick, is one of the Lake District’s most fascinating industrial heritage sites. Once a working metal mine producing lead and zinc, it is now preserved by the National Trust and stands as a powerful reminder of the area’s rich mining history.
What makes Force Crag Mine truly unique is its setting. Surrounded by dramatic fells and tucked deep within the valley, it offers a sense of scale, isolation and natural beauty that is hard to find elsewhere in the Lake District. The mine buildings remain largely intact, adding depth, character and authenticity to the location.
From a filming perspective, it is an exceptional environment. The combination of historic structures and sweeping landscapes makes it ideal for professional drone photography and video, allowing us to capture both detail and scale in a single project.
Using aerial Drone footage, we were able to reveal how the mine sits within the wider landscape, with winding tracks, rugged terrain and layered hills creating a strong visual composition. The elevation of the surrounding fells provides natural depth and leading lines, which work perfectly when capturing cinematic drone shots.
At the same time, ground-based filming allowed us to focus on the finer details, textures and atmosphere of the site. This combination of ground and aerial video creates a more complete and immersive story, something we always aim to achieve in our work.
